Photographers go KooKu at the
Orange British Academy Film Awards
|
Lydbrook, Gloucestershire,
UK, 23 February 2004 - Following the success
of the 2003 Inside Soap Awards and the MTV Europe
Music Awards 2003, KooKu was approached by Freud
Communications, the awards' Press Relations Agency
to provide photographers at the BAFTAs with wireless
internet access. Photographers were able to access
the service outside the Odeon Leicester Square
where the awards were held to cover arrivals as
well as in all the allocated press areas in the
cinema.
This service allowed photographers
from all the major newspapers and agencies to
access the internet, email and online services
at broadband speeds from anywhere in the press
areas, without a phone line connection. This solution
replaced previous methods of sending photographs
such as using GPRS or even ISDN lines with a fast
and efficient service. KooKu also provided them
with technical support for the duration of the
event. Photographers without wireless cards were
provided with MicroAPs, a driver free installation
device replacing a wireless card, a cost effective
and easy to use solution.

Freud Communications Head
of Media Management, Toby Burnham said: "Year on
year, the Orange British Academy Film Awards have grown
exponentially in stature - and therefore so has the
pressure on the media to report them worldwide. The
combination of early print deadlines and late arrival
times mean that speed of data transfer is absolutely
key, especially for photography. The WiFi solution and
technicians provided by KooKu worked incredibly smoothly
- picture editors the world over breathed a sigh of
relief, and the coverage has been fantastic!"
KooKu Sales Director,
Jeff Martin said, "These are the first BAFTAs to
be WiFi enabled and we were delighted to work with Freud
Communications and BAFTA. This prestigious event has
given us the opportunity to deploy this solution in
future high profile events."
This global wireless
broadband solution uses carrier class broadband access
and WiFi products. This can be deployed at any event
within 24 hours in any location with full on site technical
support including the ability to provide constant bit
rate services, for the duration of the event. KooKu
supports up to 150 users and gives the host the ability
to customise login pages and access cards, enabling
it to be used as a marketing tool.
