Use KooKu Hotspot at the Inside Soap Awards
Lydbrook, Gloucestershire,
8 October 2003 - Photographers at the Inside Soap
Awards had the ability to send their pictures on the
night using Wi-Fi internet access. The Café Grand
Prix in Mayfair, where the Inside Soap Awards were held,
became the latest prestigious venue in London to become
Wi-Fi enabled via KooKu. The installation in Rosie's
Bar, the venue's members bar which was transformed into
the press room for the evening, is based on the 802.11
wireless networking standard protocol.
This service allowed photographers
to access the internet, email and online services at
broadband speeds, without a phone line connection. Photographers
without wireless cards were provided with MicroAPs,
a driver free installation device replacing a wireless
card, a cost effective and easy to use solution.
Ian West, Chief Celebrity
Photographer for the Press Association, said: "Being
able to have access to the internet using the KooKu
network enabled me to send my pictures instantly to
the agency and newspapers. The service was easy to log-on
and technical support was on hand to help."
Kooku spokesperson, Jeff
Martin said, "We are delighted to have been involved
in enabling a venue as prestigious as the Café
Grand Prix with this cutting edge technology and the
KooKu network. The photographers were delighted with
the service and the demand for it is now increasing".
Venues using the KooKu
network will be presented with a sales pack containing
the KooKu cards customised with their logo, point of
sale material, user guides, staff training and after
sales support.
